ZIBS International Advisory Board Officially Launched
 

 

As ZIBS internationalization proceeds, the school is also moving into a new phase of development. At this important moment when Zhejiang University is celebrating its 126th anniversary, the International Advisory Broad (IAB) of ZIBS is also officially announced.

 

About IAB

 

As an important linkage between ZIBS and the world, and an important platform for dialogue with global leaders in business, academia, and government, the ZIBS International Advisory Board (IAB) aims to further cultivate ZIBS interdisciplinarity, strengthen business insight, connect global resource, and enhance ZIBS international impact. IAB's mission is to share global vision while promoting academic research and reimagining the business education, and to support cultivating internationally competitive talents by providing guidance and advice to ZIBS leadership. 

The ZIBS International Advisory Board is comprised of distinguished individuals who have achieved excellence in their respective fields and are committed to promoting international cooperation and education.

Han Seung-soo

Chairman of the Council of Presidents of the United Nations General Assembly (UNCPGA)

Han Seung-soo served as Prime Minister of Republic of Korea (2008-09). He was UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Climate Change (2007-08) and for Disaster Risk Reduction and Water (2013-18). He also served as a consultant to the World Bank in the 1970s, Financial Adviser to the Government of Jordan (1974-76) and Vice Chair of the Zayed Sustainability Prize Jury (2012-2022). 

He was President of the 56th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (2001-02), Korea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs (2001-02), Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance (1996-97), Chief of Staff to the President (1994-95), Korean Ambassador to the United States (1993-94) and Minister of Trade and Industry (1988-90). He was a three-term Member of Korean National Assembly (1988-1992, 1996-2004). 

He was awarded, among many domestic and foreign decorations and prizes, the 6th European Communities Prize in 1971 (for his doctoral thesis on the Growth and Function of the European Budget), Nobel Peace Prize on behalf of the United Nations in 2001 and an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) from HM Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom in 2004.

Yaseen Anwar

Former Governor of Central Bank of Pakistan

Yaseen Anwar was appointed Governor, State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), by the President of Pakistan, on 19th October 2011. He is the 17th Governor of SBP since its inception in July, 1948. 

Prior to his appointment as Governor SBP, he was appointed Acting Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan on July 18th, 2011 in which capacity he also served from June 3rd, 2010 until September 8th, 2010. He served the State Bank as its Deputy Governor since March 29th, 2007 and managed all the four clusters of the Central Bank i.e. Banking, Reserve Management, Monetary Policy and Operations; SBP subsidiaries -Banking Services Corporation (BSC) and the National Institute of Banking & Finance (NIBAF). 

He was the founder and President of the Pakistan Bankers Association, U.K., from 1997 to 1999. He was also a member of the Arab Bankers Association, U.K. In New York, he had served as an Executive Director on the American Turkish Society, Director on the US-Pakistan Economic Council, Director on the American Middle East Business Association and Member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Anita Bhatia

Former Assistant Secretary General and Deputy Executive Director, UN Women

Anita Bhatia is the founder of The Gender Impact Collaborative, a strategic advisory, advocacy convening and capacity building organization. Until April 2023, she served as the United Nations' Assistant Secretary-General and Deputy Executive Director for UN Women, the flagship entity in the United Nations system charged with advancing gender equality and women's empowerment globally. In that role, she led external stakeholder relations with both public and private sector partners, fundraising, communications, strategy planning, as well as finance and HR. 

She has served as a member of the Board of Governors of the United Nations System Staff College and currently serves on the Board of the United Nations Sanitation and Hygiene Fund (SHF) and as a Commissioner in the Lancet Commission on Gender-based Violence and Maltreatment of Young People. 

Prior to UN Women, she had a distinguished career spanning 30+ years in the World Bank Group, including the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank and the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) serving in different leadership and management positions. She served as the Director for Development Partner Relations at the World Bank, Director of Partnerships and Advisory Services Operations at the IFC and Head of IFC's Latin America Advisory Operations among other roles.

Geoffrey Garrett

Dean of the USC Marshall School 

of Business

Geoffrey Garrett is dean of the  USC Marshall School of Business and holder of the Robert R. Dockson Dean's Chair in Business Administration and Professor of Management and Organization. 

He becomes the 18th dean of the Marshall School, which is celebrating its centennial year in 2020-21. Additionally, he's previous administrative appointments include service as dean of the business schools at both the University of Sydney (where he was also founding CEO of the United States Studies Centre) and UNSW Australia, and as founding dean of the International Institute as well as Vice Provost of International Studies at UCLA. He is a member of the board of directors of Park Hotels and Resorts and has served on the advisory boards for the Indian School of Business, the Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance and the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management. 

A distinguished international political economist, he has held academic appointments at Oxford, Stanford and Yale universities. He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Social Sciences, a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a winner of the Foreign Policy Association Medal and the Advance Global Australian Award.

Gregory Guyett

CEO of Global Banking & Markets, HSBC

Gregory Guyett was appointed CEO of Global Banking & Markets in October 2022. He is a member of the Group Executive Committee. 

He joined HSBC in October 2018 as Head of Global Banking and then became Co-CEO of Global Banking & Markets in March 2020. Prior to joining HSBC, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of East West Bancorp. He began his career at J.P. Morgan in 1985 as an investment banker in the real estate banking group where he went on to hold a number of leadership positions including Head of Investment Banking for Asia Pacific as well as Co-Head of Banking for the region. 

From 2013 to 2014, he played an important role at J.P. Morgan, based in Shanghai. In this role he was responsible for the firm's operations in the region, including investment banking, markets, corporate banking, treasury management, custody and asset management. He also served as Chief Executive Officer for J.P. Morgan's Global Corporate Bank, based in London, responsible for corporate banking coverage and infrastructure in more than 30 countries.

HUA Jingdong

Vice Chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board

HUA Jingdong was appointed as Vice-Chair of the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB) in August 2022, effective 1 October 2022. 

He brings a wealth of international finance and development expertise to the ISSB. He is the former Vice President and Treasurer of the World Bank, where his responsibilities included green bond initiatives and sustainable finance capacity-building programmes. He also served as the Administrator of the World Bank Group Pension Fund. 

Before joining the World Bank, he served as Vice President and Treasurer of the International Finance Corporation, where he led innovative bond issuances in several emerging markets. He has also previously served as Deputy Treasurer of the Asian Development Bank and has held positions at the United Nations Development Programme and the African Development Bank.

JING Xiandong

Chairman and CEO of Ant Group

JING Xiandong is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO)of Ant Group. He joined Alibaba Group in 2007 and became President of Ant Group in June 2015. In October 2016, he was appointed CEO of Ant Group, and in April 2018, assumed the additional role of Chairman. 

Under his leadership, Ant Group's strategy is focused on inclusiveness, sustainability, and globalization, to bring small but beautiful changes to the world. Ant Group aims to support digital transformation with partners worldwide and to enable access to financial and technologicalservices for consumers and small businesses. 

He serves as a senior advisor to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, is a member of the World Economic Forum's Young Global Leaders Foundation Board, and served on the UN Secretary-General's Task Force on Digital Financing of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Sergio Agapito Lires Rial

Lead Director in large listed US and Brazilian Companies

Sergio Agapito Lires Rial is currently Vibra Energia Chairman, one of Brazil's few true corporations, previously known as BR Distribuidora. He is also Chairman of Ebury Partners, a fast growth fintech, focused on cross border payments, based in London but present in more than 20 countries. In addition, he is the vice-chairman of Brazil Foods (BRF), the largest national food company in Brazil and member of the board of directors of Delta Airlines in the US and the The Nature Conservancy, one of the world's largest environmental NGO's. Prior to that he was the chairman of Santander Brazil until January 2023 and acted as CEO of the company for more than six years, being part of the group's board in Spain as well. 

As an executive, played roles on the global executive committee of ABN AMRO in Amsterdam, Senior Executive Managing Director in Bear Stearns in New York, Global CFO of Cargill in Minneapolis, and CEO of Marfrig Foods, one of the world's largest beef companies.

Muhammad Yunus

Chairman of Yunus Centre, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate

Muhammad Yunus was the 2006 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, divided into two equal parts, to Yunus and Grameen Bank for their efforts to create economic and social development from below. 

He is the co-author (with Alan Jois) of "Banker to the Poor." 

Against the advice of banks and government, he carried on giving out 'micro-loans', and in 1983 formed the Grameen Bank, meaning 'village bank' founded on principles of trust and solidarity. In Bangladesh today, Grameen has 1,084 branches, with 12,500 staff serving 2.1 million borrowers in 37,000 villages. On any working day Grameen collects an average of $1.5 million in weekly installments. Of the borrowers, 94% are women and over 98% of the loans are paid back, a recovery rate higher than any other banking system. Grameen methods are applied in projects in 58 countries, including the US, Canada, France, The Netherlands and Norway.

The purpose of ZIBS IAB is to provide strategic advice to the school. It will also deliver its insights regarding a broad variety of issues, such as global reputation, and international visibility.

ZIBS IAB will guide the development of ZIBS with global strategies, knowledge, industry insights, and trending information.

IAB Meetings

The Board meets twice a year, in May and November, to discuss progress and the challenges facing ZIBS. 

 

IAB First Meeting

 

On May 21 at 15:00, the first meeting of IAB was held both online and offline at 359 Lecture Hall, ZIBS Building. Board members, ZIBS leader team, and special guests including Abdulrahmaan Murtadha Al Ansaari, Chairman and Founder of Multiverse; Megan HU, Managing Director of WORLDUNION Investment; Michael Sung, Co-director of Institute of Digital Finance Innovation, Andrew Swain, CEO of Shanghai VIP Health CareCo. Ltd., Jackal Ma, Co-founder and partner of Tongdun Technology Co., Ltd and others attended the meeting.

ZIBS Dean BEN Shenglin provided an overview of the school's current progress during the meeting. He expressed his hope that the IAB will offer constructive suggestions for the growth of ZIBS in the future and continue to get ZIBS closer to its objective of becoming a technology-focused premier global business school from China. Based on the interdisciplinary and international cooperation with their own experience in economics, finance, and related fields, board members and guests also discussed the development strategy, talent training, faculty building, social services, and other development issues of ZIBS.
