Dartmouth MBA Delegation China Module @ZIBS

From Dec 1 to Dec 3, the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College MBA faculty and students delegation's GIX China ZIBS Module was successfully held. Professor Lauren Lu from Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College led 25 MBA students to ZIBS for learning and exchanging of ideas with 10 Chinese and foreign students from the iMBA program, led by ZIBS Assistant Professor WANG Yiwei. Together, the group visited enterprises with distinctive Zhejiang characteristics such as MYbank, FutureStitch, and Alibaba.

At MYbank, the Tuck School of Business delegation learned about how online commercial banks utilize internet technology, innovations in data usage, and channel development to help solve problems such as financing for small and micro enterprises and sole proprietors, as well as rural financing, to eventually promote the development of real economy. They also focused on exploring how online commercial banks can create a light-capital, platform-based, and transactional model based on cloud computing and data-driven risk management capabilities, building a scenario-based Internet finance system.

The smart factory of FutureStitch is the only factory in the world that specializes in producing the American leisure and sports fashion brand STANCE. It is also a place of incubation that pushes the production of socks to incorporate the entire sports series of products. The factory has obtained the highest marks of the LEED green building certification in the sock and knitted clothing manufacturing industries worldwide and is the ninth factory in the world and the first factory in China (and also in North Asia) to obtain LEED platinum level certification for existing buildings. At FutureStitch, the "people-oriented" design concept that runs through the entire process has left a deep impression on the Tuck School of Business delegation - advanced facilities in the factory all comply with SA8000 standards (the world's leading social performance certification program that focuses on employee welfare). The factory includes a library, basketball court, gym, and 4000 square feet of creative space, all aimed at providing employees with more suitable conditions for living, learning, entertaining, exercising, and relaxing.

At Alibaba Exhibition Hall 9, the Tuck School of Business delegation not only visited Alibaba's themed exhibitions, but also saw the overall development of China's internet economy reflecting the past, present, and future. Special technology, big data, artificial intelligence, public welfare poverty alleviation, education, and rural projects were all elements of the tour. Through the lens of Alibaba, the Tuck School of Business delegation enjoyed the transformation of human business and also reflected and discussed the future development trends of world business.

Baihaqi Muhammad Irwansyah and Veronica Budihartono, students from the ZIBS iMBA program class of 2023, hosted an exchange meeting between the two universities. A lively discussion on the difficulties faced by their respective companies as well as suggestive solutions took place. This opened up a new perspective on seeing China, the world, and business in general. Through the exchange and integration of ideas, friendship was established among all.

As the students from the delegation were all visiting China for the first time, after the completion of the ZIBS module, the delegation expressed that they saw a demonstration of the internationalization of Chinese higher education at the Zhejiang University International Campus and ZIBS, and experienced the engine of high-quality regional development in Zhejiang.
