Research Visit from AHSS to ZIBS

 

On June 26, representative leaders from ZJU Academy of Humanities and Social Science paid a visit to ZIBS, conducting a seminar on research policies and platform operation.

At the seminar, WU Jian, Vice Dean of International Campus, ZJU, began by delivering a warm welcome, expressing his heartfelt gratitude for AHSS' ongoing support for International Campus. He then discussed areas related to liberal arts development at the campus, including the growth of young liberal arts talent, the development of liberal arts labs, joint efforts with companies to build humanities and social sciences research institutions, strategies for building think tank, and the integration of science, education, industry in humanities and social sciences.

On behalf of ZIBS, QU Haidong extended a warm welcome to AHSS and provided an overview of the faculty and the international features of ZIBS.

ZHANG Yan, Executive Vice Dean of AHSS, systematically presented the fundamental circumstances of liberal arts development at ZJU, thoroughly explaining the liberal arts research policies and introducing the university's recent explorations and initiatives in advancing liberal arts research. She stated the common aspects of liberal arts research development between the university and school and suggested that ZIBS, leveraging its interdisciplinary advantage, focus on international cooperation and build a unique research platform.

Drawing from his experiences in think tank development, XU Baomin, Vice Dean of AHSS, discussed the development path of young liberal arts talents, research paradigms, collaborations and platforms for research, and the services for projects related to liberal arts in policy advisory. He advised ZIBS to establish an international think tank platform based on its unique features and actively make proposals in the overall interests of the university.

CHENG Li, Vice Dean of AHSS, provided guidance on the planning, team building, and norms of management for developing research platforms. She highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation and communication among young faculty members, while focusing on sustainable development and promoting the platform in order to improve its reputation and influence.

DENG Shuiguang, Vice Dean of AHSS, asserted that the key to transforming the paradigm of liberal arts research lies in organized research. He proposed constructive suggestions centered on interdisciplinary studies on aspects including team formation, platform support, and project applications.

Professor SHI Wenlei asserted that ZIBS holds tremendous potential in policy advisory services. He recommended leveraging its international strengths to enhance the global dissemination of business cultures in Zhejiang and Confucian values in Chinese business culture. Following his remarks, both parties engaged in an in-depth dialogue on a series of pertinent topics, including the development strategy of humanities and social sciences research, industry-academia-policy research cooperation, and interdisciplinary development with international characteristics.

In his summary at the close of the meeting, ZIBS Dean BEN Shenglin expressed thanks to ZHANG Yan and her team for their guidance, hoping to take this opportunity to further strengthen the communication and exchange between ZIBS and AHSS. He highlighted that by leveraging its existing global layout, mobilizing international research resources, and consolidating its unique business research features, ZIBS could stand as a potent force behind Zhejiang University's international strides in the field of liberal arts.
